Interesting! We have a “wood sorrel” (also sour)here but it’s an oxalis. Looks like clover with a little yellow flower. Very tasty. My grandkids like it and so do my chickens!
We have wood sorrel here too and looks just like you describe. I had no idea you could eat that too. Makes sense though, if sorrel comes from the old word for sour taste. Must try the wood sorrel when it's out!
