thanks Gem! That's lovely to read. I'm afraid I'm a bit of a geek and love delving in old herbals, journals etc. I get intrigued by all the old information that's out there.
It’s inspired me to weave a bit of folklore into my bird posts. Dunnock eggs on the hearth were thought to keep witches from coming down your chimney, for example!
How lovely, I feel flattered that I have given you a bit of inspiration. Must go and find some Dunnock eggs! (Don't worry, would never disturb a bird's nest).
What I have come to realise is that our ancestors were so much closer to nature than we are today. Almost every plant, bird or other animal had meaning of some kind. We seem to have lost that a bit today. But maybe our substacks bring a little bit of closeness to nature back to the world.
How lovely, thank you, it always makes me happy to read when Flowerology has inspired someone to read or do something or brings up fond memories. I’ll have to check out the book you mention!
I hadn't seen it before I looked it up on-line. But do have two other fairy books illustrated by Brian Froud. Lady Cottington's pressed Fairy book and Good Faeries, Bad Faeries. Beautifully illustrated and great fun!
I love this, beautiful illustrations and the research you’ve put into it is wonderful. So interesting and well written!
