Oow, I have too many favourite flowers. The bright blue "cichorei" is one too. "Cichorei maakt me blij" is a little song I sing when I see them. Along roads (in bermen) en langs stoepranden.

We have chicory here, along the roadsides especially. When it blooms it feels like the end of summer is too close.

I know how you feel, it grows along country lanes here and I feel too when it is in bloom it nears the end of summer. However, this year, it is in bloom already. That's why I did the chicory post this week, I saw it alongside one of the meadows where I walk the dogs. Maybe because we've had an unusually dry and warm spring this year?

Interesting that you can still buy chicory coffee! I had no idea and will have to find some to try. I might be wrong about the caffeine, but I read it in one of my big mountain of herbals and wildflower books. Just can't recall in which one I read it. But doing a quick search on-line tells me it is indeed caffeine free. I will take the bit about the caffeine out until I find where it was written. Thanks for pointing that out!

Thanks! Will have to go there next time I'm in town. Does it taste good? Or is it bitter like all the books tell me?

Thank you, that does help. The books make it sound as if it's disgustingly bitter, but the way you describe sounds much better and worth a try!
